You don't have to earn God's love. You already have it. So many of us live as though we are constantly working for his approval, for giving that he has already declared us his beloved. In this episode, we're going to step off the treadmill of striving and rest in the truth of who you truly are, chosen, cherished, and called as his daughter. Hi, I'm Crystal Storms, author, artist, surface pattern designer, and your companion on this journey to finding rest in Christ. Welcome to the Heart Rest Podcast, episode 42. If you're feeling weary, distracted, or just in need of a sacred pause, you're in the right place. Each episode we open God's word and our hearts to discover peace that comes when we live closely connected to Jesus. Let's settle in and draw closer to his heart together. For far too long, I defined myself by what had been done to me or by what felt missing from my life. I felt broken, an abused child raised in a single parent home, who grew into a woman plagued by infertility. I loved Jesus and deep down I knew he loved me, but simply knowing that truth didn't automatically change how I lived. Instead, I kept trying to fix my inner brokenness through external things. My relationships, productivity, shopping. And I know I'm not the only one who has ever felt that way. There's a woman in the Bible whose story meets us right in that place of exhaustion. We don't know her name, we only know her condition. She'd been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve long years. She'd spent everything she owned on doctor after doctor. Yet instead of getting better, her condition only grew worse. Then she heard about Jesus. Something stirred inside her. She believed with quiet desperation that if she could only reach out and touch the hem of his clothes, she would be healed. So stepping through her fear and violating all social and religious purity laws of her day, she pressed through the crowd and touched Jesus. In that exact moment, the bleeding stopped. She was healed. Jesus instantly felt power go out from him. He stopped, turned to the crowd, and asked, Who touched my clothes? While the crowd was pressing in all around him, only one person had reached out in active faith. Realizing she couldn't stay hidden, the woman came forward, fell at Jesus' feet, trembling with fear, and poured out the whole truth. Let's look how Jesus responds in Mark 5.34. He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering. Notice that word daughter. In a single breath, Jesus gave her an identity rooted not in her disease, her medical history, or her years of suffering, but in her relationship to Him and by extension to God. When Jesus called her daughter, he rewrote her story and he wants to do the exact same thing for you. If you're exhausted from trying to fix your own life or earn his favor, here are four soul-restoring truths to help you move from striving to daughtership. 1. 12 years of striving fills the limits of self-reliance. The woman suffered for twelve years, exhausting every human resource without any improvement. Her relentless pursuit of healing left her depleted financially, physically, and emotionally. Her turning point didn't come through working harder or trying one more doctor. It came when she recognized that touching Jesus' garment rather than her own striving held the power to restore her. Consider this your permission to stop performing and start receiving. Your true value isn't earned through endless achievement, it's received as a gift from God. Two, Jesus calls you daughter, not by your diagnosis. When Jesus addressed this woman, he called her daughter and declared that her faith had saved her. He didn't label her by her illness, her past failures, or her long history of disappointment. Instead, he established her identity through relationship. She belongs to God's household. In the same way, God calls you by name and calls you as his own. Isaiah 43, 1 through 7 can remind you of who you are in his eyes. He does this not because of what you've accomplished, but because of who you are in his eyes. Your identity is fixed in divine love. It never fluctuates with your performance metrics. 3. Restoration means reintegration, not just physical recovery. Through Christ's work, those who were once far off are brought near, and the walls of separation are torn down to bring peace and reconciliation. For this woman, healing wasn't just physical. It restored her to community after twelve years of painful isolation. True restoration means returning to genuine relationship, to rest, and to deep belonging within God's family. In Christ, you are a brand new creation. The old patterns of striving pass away. You can live as God's beloved when you anchor your identity in him. She heard that Jesus saves, heals, delivers, and sets captives free. Hearing about his character kindled a steady confidence in her soul. She realized that if he had so willingly restored others, he was both able and willing to heal her too. You cannot trust a God you do not truly know. Many live in spiritual exhaustion simply because they don't fully understand Christ's compassion and availability. The shift from performance to daughtership begins when we encounter the true character of the one who claims us as his daughters. Beloved friend, let this settle in your heart today. Nothing can change your identity as God's cherished child. Each morning this week before your feet hit the floor, take a breath and whisper this simple truth. I am your beloved. And hear Jesus speak directly to your heart today, as he did to the woman in Mark 5.34. Each episode I want to offer you a question to journal about or simply contemplate. Where in your life have you been living for love instead of from love? Thank you for joining me for episode 42 of the Heart Rest Podcast. My prayer is that today's encouragement about living as God's child helps you create a rhythm of rest in your life. Remember, life may be complicated, but true rest comes when we keep first things first and release the rest into his hands. We are not what others think of us. Coming home is claiming the truth. I am the beloved child of a loving creator. Until next time, may you rest close to his heart and live from his peace.
